Workshops on Supervisory Skills

Starting at $1,500, plus expenses

SUPERVISORY SURVIVAL SKILLS I

Participants will be guided through a process to analyze the needs of the people supervised through an assessment of their leadership skills and the factors that assist employees to be active participants in a positive supervisory relationship. Participants will review and reflect on what they need to do to supervise in such a way as to get optimal results from staff personnel, being mindful of the important role of the mission of the agency and specific program goals. Participants will learn the value of being a good teacher, how to document supervisory sessions and the power positive, constructive feedback plays in guiding employees to perform to the best of their abilities. Situational Leadership, the brainchild of Ken Blanchard, will be presented to participants with a goal of helping them to determine which style of leadership is needed to assist staff with the types of tasks requested of them.

SUPERVISORY SURVIVAL SKILLS II

Participants will be guided to identify employees who are not able or not willing to complete assigned tasks to the satisfaction of the supervisor. Participants will be asked to assess the specific problems of people they supervise and to develop a supervisory action plan that encompasses re-teaching, setting specific performance goals and providing strong follow-up support with a goal of getting the employee "on track" with the needs of the agency, program and individuals being supported. Participants will be introduced to several different conflict resolution models including how to assess the need for formal disciplinary action and will be asked to evaluate and process difficult situations using the models presented.
